Despite the Royal Borough of Greenwich's claims that low traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs) help expedite emergency services' response times, this couldn't be further from the truth, as numerous Freedom Of Information (FOI) requests reveal.

Emergency services logged numerous complaints due to life-threatening delays caused by hard closures and congestion caused by displaced traffic during the trial West Greenwich Traffic Management scheme, which ran between August 2020 and February 2022.

The latest scheme, scheduled to be rolled out in summer 2024, will cause even more serious, life-threatening delays and, despite further objections by emergency services over the use of hard closures, the council plans to proceed with implementing them regardless.
